The IC693ALG220 is a Series 90-30 Channel Analog Voltage Input module. This Programmable Logic Controller has four input channels, each of which may transform an analog input signal to a digital signal based on the user’s needs. The module can convert voltages between -10 and +10 volts. Each channel’s conversion speed is 1 ms, resulting in a 4 ms update rate for any channel. The resolution of the converted signal is 12 bits binary. In the percent AI registers, user data is stored in 16-bit 2′s complement format.

This input module has a limited current input mode and a jumper for each channel on the user terminal connector. The latter can be utilized to link the circuit to the inbuilt 250 ohm shunt resistor. The shunt resistor provides for a current input range of –40 to +40 mA. However, the user must keep an eye on the input current to prevent the input resistor from overheating. Otherwise, present accuracy can be jeopardized. The isolated +24 VDC power supplied by the PLC power supply is the IC693ALG220′s principal power source. To provide operational voltages for the module, voltage is delivered through an inverter/regulator. The IC693ALG220 draws 27 mA from the PLC power supply’s +5 VDC output.

An LED is also included in this module to alert the user to the operation. This LED is advantageously situated towards the faceplate’s top. The LED will display the ON status during regular operation. This module creates electrical isolation of external noise between field wire and the backplane using optical isolation. The field connectors of the module should be wired with a suitable grade of twisted/shielded instrumentation cable to reduce capacitive loading and noise.
